Sunday, September 10, 2006, took place the 39-th Annual Ukrainian Day Festival, held on the grounds of Saint Basil College Seminary in Stamford, Connecticut. The Day began with the Pontifical Divine Liturgy celebrated by Most Rev. Paul Chomnycky, OSBM, Eparch of Stamford, together with Most Rev. Basil Losten, Right Rev. Mitred Msgr. John Terlecky, rector of the cathedral, Very Rev. Bohdan J. Danylo, seminary rector, and Rev. Bruce Williams, professor of moral theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. ST. BASIL COLLEGE SEMINARY OPENED 67TH ACADEMIC YEAR OF EDUCATION AND FORMATION
On Monday, September 4, 2006 St. Basil College Seminary in Stamford, Connecticut opened the new academic year of education and formation. The seminary community during the Moleben to Mother of God prayed for God's blessings and patronage for the upcoming academic year. NEW BISHOP OF STAMFORD IS APPOINTED
His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, has informed the Eparchy of Stamford that he has accepted the resignation of Bishop Basil H. Losten from office having reached the mandatory age of retirement. In the same announcement dated January 3, 2006, Bishop Paul Patrick Chomnycky, O.S.B.M., currently the Apostolic Exarch of Great Britain, has been appointed as Bishop Losten’s successor as the fourth Bishop of the Eparchy of Stamford. FEB-09-2006: NEW UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC METROPOLITAN APPOINTED FOR CANADA
Winnipeg- Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop Laurence Huculak, who had been eparchial bishop of Edmonton, as archbishop of Winnipeg and metropolitan of Ukrainian Catholics in Canada. The press service of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada publicized the news on 9 January 2006. RISU note: In Ukraine, this church is called the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), while in the diaspora it now calls itself the Ukrainian Catholic Church.
