St. Basil College seminarians visit the Onassis Cultural Center

On Saturday, April 12, 2008, students from St. Basil College Seminary visited the Onassis Cultural Center in New York City. The museum and cultural center are part of the Alexander S. Onassis Benefit Foundation located in Olympic Tower.

As part of the college’s cultural curriculum, the students traveled to New York City to view the exhibition entitled “From the Land of the Labyrinth: Minoan Crete, 3000-1100B.C.” The Minoan civilization is a cultural expression of Bronze Age societies in Crete which flourished during the third and second millennia B.C.

Over the course of approximately two millennia, the bright and colorful Minoan civilization enchanted the eastern Mediterranean world with its peaceful motifs, its naturalistic works of art, and its innovative approach to societal structures. This historical society created the models for Greek art and provided inspiration for artists of the Western World.

This exhibition was a great opportunity for St. Basil’s students to enhance their knowledge of the history of Western Civilization.
