SAINT GEORGE'S CHURCH TO HOST ANNIVERSARY

A Pontifical Divine Liturgy commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the erection of the Stamford Exarchate as a separate jurisdiction from Philadelphia will be held at 4 o’clock, Saturday, Oct. 14, in St. George’s U. C. Church in New York City.

Bishop Paul P. Chomnycky, OSBM, Eparch of Stamford, will be the principal celebrant and homilist.

Joining Bishop Chomnycky at the altar will be Archbishop Stefan Soroka, Metropolitan of Philadelphia; Archbishop Basil Schott, Metropolitan of the Byzantine Archeparchy of Pittsburgh; Bishop Basil H. Losten, retired eparch of Stamford; Bishop Walter Paska, retired auxiliary of Philadelphia, and Bishop Cornelius Pasichny, retired eparch of Toronto.

Latin-rite bishops in attendance will include Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn; Bishop Michael Cote of Norwich, CT; Bishop Richard Malone of Portland, ME; retired Auxiliary Bishop Peter Rosazza of Hartford, and Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations.

Clergy, religious, faithful, and representatives from Ukrainian organizations have been invited from all four Ukrainian Catholic Eparchies of the United States. Dignitaries from the Ukrainian consulate in New York city will also be in attendance. A reception for those attending will follow at 6 P.M. in St. George’s Academy auditorium.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, the anniversary celebration will continue with a Pontifical Divine Liturgy at noon in St. George’s Church. Following the Liturgy, Bishop Paul will bless two new frescoes donated to the church.

After the Liturgy, the Dumka Choir under the drection of Wasyl Hrychynsky will present a concert of sacred music in the auditorium of St. George’s School.

Mrs. Roma Hayda will then deliver the 50th anniversary keynote address.

The afternoon program will conclude with the Dumka Choir joining the Ukrainian Dramatic Group, sponsored by St. George’s Parish under the direction of Ivan Berbarskyy.in a presentation of “Peace Be With You,” a play according to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.
