On Monday, September 4, 2006 St. Basil College Seminary in Stamford, Connecticut opened the new academic year of education and formation. The seminary community during the Moleben to Mother of God prayed for God's blessings and patronage for the upcoming academic year. Bishop Paul Chomnycky, eparch of Stamford together with Bishop Basil H. Losten, Father Bohdan Danylo, Seminary Rector, Ivan Mazuryk, Dean of Men, and Father Roberto Lucavei, OSBM, Spiritual Director greeted all new and returning seminarians.

For almost seventy years St. Basil College Seminary has been a center of learning and formation. As a college seminary, it aims to help the student mature as a liberally educated person committed to Christ and to the service of people. Of the over two hundred and twenty-five graduates of St. Basil College Seminary, one hundred and twenty seven have been ordained to the priesthood, six of whom have been elevated to the episcopacy, and one is the Patriarch and Cardinal, the Head and Spiritual Father of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. They all tirelessly serve our eparchy and the Ukrainian Catholic Church allover the world.

The mission of Saint Basil College Seminary is to educate and prepare men who desire to pursue a vocation to the priesthood for the Ukrainian Catholic Church.

St. Basil College Seminary always has been in service to our community. St. Basil is the only Ukrainian Catholic liberal arts college, the only one of its kind outside of Ukraine fully accredited as a senior college by the State Board of Education.

As such, most of our students are Ukrainian Catholics, vitally interested in pursuing studies in their own spirituality and rite as well as studies in their ethnic history, civilization, language, and literature.

In the fall 2005 the Connecticut Board of Governors of the Department of Higher Education, granted the College re-accreditation for a five year period. On October 25, 2005 an evaluation team from the American Academy for Liberal Education visited the campus. Later one AALE announced the granting of Institutional Pre-accreditation of the College. In addition, in the College Seminary underwent an Apostolic Visitation by the Vatican . The Congregations for Catholic Education and the Oriental Churches examined various elements of priestly formation at St. Basil's. Particular attention was given to human, intellectual, spiritual and pastoral formations.

Currently our college is seeking accreditation from The New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Saint Basil College Seminary is the beacon of education and formation for those who seek to discover their calling to service in the Church, a place for discernment and response.
